Ollie: Okay, I took a map a while back that I'm pretty sure can get us south, we just have to keep walking down this road for about ten or fifteen miles, and then there should be a village we can stop at to rest.
*The sound of crunching is heard as Ollie and Ben walk down a gravel road. The wind is gentle in the background but everpresent*
Ben: I still don't understand--Where are we going to go? We've never even left town before, and Pastor Gabriel has said that--
Ollie: I've been out of town before, not that far but I've been in woods, I know to survive. And Pastor Gabriel lied, Ben, isn't it obvious?
Ben: What? What do you mean?
Ollie: Come on, think about it. Pastor Gabriel taught us that we were the only town left in the world. You don't think that some other group of people somewhere else in the world had the same idea to block up their doors and windows to keep out the gas?
Ben: Well...Maybe, but even if that's true, that doesn't necessarily mean he lied to hurt us, he was just trying to get us to focus on taking care of our community before reaching out to others.
Ollie: No, he was trying to get us to take care of him. That whole town worships him, and he made it that way.
Ben: What, because of church? We worship God, not him.
Ollie: Why do we use his name in our hymns, then? Why do we have to address all of our prayers to him?
Ben: I don't know--can we talk about Grandpa? You still haven't even told me what happened!
^Theres a long pause in conversation.^
Ben: Ollie?
^Ollie sighs.*
Ollie: I was getting back from my shift...Usually I would go right home after but the Pastor wanted me to gather some firewood for some reason. So I returned back to the church, and--and I saw Grandpa laying in a chair beside the altar, and he was covered in blood. Pastor Gabriel was there, with Joe and Anton. They were whispering to eachother and Pastor Gabriel was holding a knife, and Grandpa wasn't moving...and something just told me to get out of there. It's hard to remember what happened after that.
Ben: But...Pastor Gabriel would never do that...Grandpa had been in his congregation since before I was born--And he was devoted to that church.
Ollie: ...I don't know, but I saw what I saw. You can go back if you want--They'll punish you, I have no doubt about that, if not worse.
Ben: Y-you're just saying that. Grandpa must've done something really bad...
*They stop walking.*
Ollie: Oh my god, Ben. Just go back if you're so obsessed with Pastor Gabriel.
Ben: If I went back...Would you come with me?
Ollie: Absolutely not. What they did to Grandpa is unforgivable. I would shoot them all myself if I had a rifle, but there's no way I would survive that. Regardless, I'm done letting people like Pastor Gabriel rule my life. I'd rather take my chances out here than be locked up in Red Lake.
*Another Pause. Ollie begins to walk again.*
Ollie: But there's no knowing what's out there, so maybe you should head back to where it's safer. Just do me a favor and tell them I went North.
*The footsteps become more and more distant. Suddenly, Ben begins to jog after Ollie.*
Ben: I'm not leaving you, and I'm not scared! I'm just surprised about what happened...I really hope they don't find us.
Ollie: We should probably pick up the pace then. We should be able to reach that village before it gets dark.
